Sgt. Wetklow, Ptl. Monroe, Ptl. Massuda, Ptl. Cabrera, and Ptl. Ebenhack responded to reports of a child who was not responsive or breathing at a River Road apartment around 6:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, Chief Donald A. Martin said.

The child's mother was performing lifesaving care, but the officers immediately took over and performed CPR, utilizing an automated external defibrillator and bag valve mask, Martin said.

Through the officers' efforts, the child soon had a pulse and was breathing on her own. The child was rushed to Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen and later released from the hospital.

The girl is now recovering at home with her parents.
